Stephanie Kain is both a commercial writer and a creative editor. She likes to help small businesses with their promotional material such as brochures, Web content, and newsletters. She also enjoys helping emerging writers uncover the elusive "perfect draft."
Stephanie graduated from Lancaster University (United Kingdom) with a Master of Creative Writing (MA), and is now answering everyone's incredulous question: "What are you going to DO with that?!"
As an editor, Stephanie likes to get elbows-deep into her work. She provides thought-provoking and insightful critiques to writers of both fiction and non-fiction, tackling everything from macro-level issues (plot, story-arc, characterization) to micro problems (spelling, grammar, punctuation, and the perplexing role of the semi-colon). She works with writers at all stages of their work, from first drafts to pieces almost ready to submit to an agent or publisher.
When she's not teaching creative writing classes, or analyzing manuscripts, Stephanie can be found in her office, madly typing out drafts of her ongoing books. The first is an experimental piece of lyric nonfiction entitled Letters to Catherine which is left over from her Master's thesis. The second is a book on personal finance which will be released as an eBook later next year.
Stephanie writes articles on debt, money management and building wealth. During her academic years, she took Margaret Laurence's approach to work, and was engaged in a variety of 'odd jobs'. She worked for ten years in the field of special needs, completed the courses in mutual funds and life insurance, and worked for a short time for a finance company before deciding that the reason she couldn't 'pick a career' was because she viewed each opportunity as 'research to write about'!
Excerpts from her current projects can be found on this site under "What's Steph Working on Now?"
